HAMDEN, Conn. – It was too little, too late for Union which saw its four-game conference win streak halted with a 4-3 loss to 15th-ranked Quinnipiac at High Point Solutions Arena Saturday evening.

Trailing 4-0 in the third period, Union struck for three goals in under eight minutes, but ran of out of time in its comeback attempt. Daniel Ciampini extended hs goal-scoring streak to seven games with his team-leading 15th goal of the season, which was followed by goals from J.C. Brassard (a slapshot from the blueline) and Mike Vecchione.

Travis St. Denis, who tallied the game-winning goal against Union in the first meeting back in November, scored twice for the first-place Bobcats. Denis opened scoring in the first period when he circled from behind the net and lifted a shot into the corner of the net, moments after being denied by goaltender Colin Stevens on the doorstep. Tanner McMaster made it 2-0 with a backhanded sweep of a loose puck.

QU continued to apply pressure in the second period, finishing with a 13-6 shot advantage. Bo Pieper capitalized on a turnover in front of the net at 6:55 and Denis added his second tally at 8:51, one-timing a shot from the slot.

The Dutchmen, who have been on the road the last two months, return to Messa Rink next Friday (Jan. 16), hosting Cornell in a game to be broadcast on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
