RPI’s Ohrvall Named ECAC Hockey Rookie Of The Week

TROY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly award winners in men’s hockey and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Jesper Ohrvall was named Rookie of the Week, after helping the Engineers to a series sweep of Arizona State over the weekend.

A freshman from Halmstad, Sweden, Ohrvall scored three goals in the two games against the Sun Devils, including one the power play. He registered a league-best nine shots for the week with a blocked shot. In the opener, he netted two goals on four shots with a +2 rating, as the Engineers won 5-1. He then scored the eventual game-winning goal in RPI’s 4-1 victory on Saturday.

Ohrvall has played 18 games so far this season, with three goals and four assists for seven points. The former Fairbanks Ice Dogs standout has one power play and one game-winning goal to his credit, while being assessed six penalties for 23 minutes. In seven ECAC Hockey games, he has two assists for two points.

Ranking 10th among league rookies in points, Ohrvall is eighth in goals and 13th in assists. His 22 shots ranks 13th in ECAC Hockey.

The Engineers (10-6-3; 4-1-3 ECAC Hockey) are off until January 2 and 3, when they travel to Miami University for a two-game series.
