Oswego Tops Fredonia in OT, 3-2

OSWEGO, N.Y. — Oswego scored a power-play goal 40 seconds into overtime to send Fredonia to a 3-2 SUNYAC loss in men’s hockey.

Alex Botten received a pass from behind the net, was stopped on his first attempt, and scored on his own rebound to send the Lakers to a 5-3-1 mark in the SUNYAC. The Blue Devils fell to 2-5-2 and 3-5-2 overall.

Fredonia got second-period goals from Hunter Long (Lebanon, Tenn.) and Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa.) while Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 47 saves. The Blue Devils were outshot 50-20.

Down 1-0, the Blue Devils pulled even when Long, stationed in front, scored off pass from behind-the-back, no-look pass from Ryan Wilkinson (Calgary, Alberta), from behind the cage. It was Long’s third goal of the season and Wilkinson’s team-high eighth assist. Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col.) was also credited with an assist.

Fredonia took a 2-1 lead when Polachek scored off his own rebound, assisted by Mitch Kaufmann (Red Deer, Alberta). It was Polachek’s first collegiate goal.

Shawn Hulshof scored the first Oswego goal in the first period and Stephen Johnson scoerd the tying goal at 5:08 of the third period.
