CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior goalie Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling/Wilkes Barre-Scranton Knights) stopped 33 shots as the Buffalo St. men’s hockey team defeated Cortland, 3-0, in SUNYAC action Saturday night at Alumni Arena.

Sophomore goalie Drew Weigman (Gaithersburg, MD/Northern Cyclones) made 27 saves for the Red Dragons (4-4-3 overall, 1-4-2 SUNYAC).

Juniors Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/North York Rangers) and Anthony Beaumont (Lester, PA/Hartford Jr. Wolfpack) and sophomore Marcus Michalski (Woodstock, ON/Niagara Falls Canucks) each scored goals for the Bengals (5-4-3, 3-3-1). Senior Brett Hope (Blenheim, ON/St. Thomas Stars) contributed two assists, while seniors Sean Hrivnak (Laval, QC/Kohnawake Condors) and Cory Gurski (Hilton/Buffalo Jr. Sabres), junior Jake Rosen (East Amherst/Connecticut Oilers) and sophomore Jason Zaleski (Scranton, PA/Trenton Golden Hawks) chipped in with one assist apiece.

Pryce gave Buffalo St. the lead at 11:45 of the opening period, and Beaumont made it a 2-0 game with a power-play goal at 17:43. Michalski pushed the lead to 3-0 at 5:21 of the second period. In the third period, Cortland pulled Weigman over the final 2:44 while the Red Dragons had a power play, but could not spoil the shutout.

The game was a charity contest, and the jerseys worn by the Cortland players will be auctioned off with all proceeds to benefit the Red Cross of Central New York.
