Columbus, Ohio – The Canisius College hockey team lost to Big Ten foe Ohio State on Friday night, 3-0. The loss drops the Griffs to 2-6-0 on the season, while the Buckeyes win their fourth straight and improve to 7-4-0.

“Right now, we’re a work in progress,” said Canisius head coach Dave Smith. “There were some positives to take out of the game like the penalty kill, solid goaltending and the play of our top line. Our team success will come when everybody is contributing with top effort and physical play.”

Junior Keegan Asmundson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) recorded 31 saves to anchor the Canisius defense.

Ohio State grabbed the lead with 5:33 remaining in the opening period when Ryan Dzingel finished a 3-on-2 rush for the 1-0 advantage.

The Buckeyes then stretched their lead in the second period thanks to two shots from the point. Justin DaSilva gave Ohio State a 2-0 advantage 1:41 into the stanza before Nick Schilkey scored with 5:10 left in the period.

Canisius was unable to get any closer and net its first goal of the game in the final 25-plus minutes as the Buckeyes earned the shutout victory, 3-0.

Ohio State finished the game with a 34-20 advantage in shots on the night. Neither team was able to score on the power play with Canisius going 0-for-3 and killing all four Ohio State extra-man chances.
