Syracuse’s Sibley Scores Two En Route to Tie with Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa.—Syracuse extended its unbeaten streak to six games, tying with CHA conference foe Mercyhurst on Friday night. The Orange improve to a 6-4-1 record on the season and 2-0-1 in conference play.

Kallie Billadeau made 32 saves and improved to a 3-4-1 record on the season. Billadeau allowed three goals to be scored against her, two of which were man-down goals. The Orange blocked 17 shots in the game to help relieve the pressure on Billadeau in net.

Syracuse recorded 23 shots on goal and Mercyhurst had 35 shots on target. SU was 1-for-8 on the power play and Mercyhurst was able to convert on 2-of-7 man-up opportunities.

The Orange was the first to score in the game, taking a 1-0 lead with 10:21 to play in the first period. Jessica Sibleynotched the power play score, her first of the game, and was assisted by Nicole Ferrara and Akane Hosoyamada.

The Lakers were quick to tie the game, scoring with 4:27 remaining in the first stanza to make it 1-1 going into the first intermission. Lakers leading scorer Christine Bestland tossed one in with the help of Jenna Dingeldein and Shelby Bram.

Mercyhurst took its first lead of the game 1:08 into the second period when Jillian Skinner scored on the power play but Syracuse tied it at 2-2 eight minutes later when Sibley notched her second goal of the game.

Kaillie Goodnough scored the go-ahead goal at the end of the second period to go into the second intermission with the lead. The Orange held off Mercyhurst for over 34 minutes but the Lakers were able to tie it up at 3-3 with4:06 left in regulation to force an overtime period.

Billadeau and Lakers goalie Amanda Makela each made key saves in overtime to end the game in a tie.
