The Boston Pride broke open a scoreless tie in the final ten and a half minutes of play on a Jillian Dempsey goal before going on to defeat the New York Riveters 4-1, earning their second win of the weekend.

The first two and a half periods featured tight net minding from both Jenny Scrivens, who faced 37 shots in the loss, and Brittany Ott, who had struggled against the Riveters in the teams’ last two meetings. Boston kept the pressure on through the first period, outshooting New York 16-6, but couldn’t solve Scrivens. In the previous two meetings, Boston had dominated the shot count, but New York won both contests 3-2.

Dempsey opened the scoring floodgates on a pass from Blake Bolden with 10:22 left in the third. Just after Kacey Bellamy and Beth Hanrahan came out of the box on matching roughing penalties, New York pulled Scrivens and Hilary Knight doubled the lead for Boston on an empty net goal. Just 19 seconds later, the Riveters pulled back within one as Meghan Fardelmann beat Brittany Ott on the high glove side. Amanda Pelkey put the game out of reach for New York, as she put Boston ahead 3-1 with 1:20 remaining. Knight scored a second empty netter with help from Bellamy with 32 ticks left on the clock.

New York hosts the Connecticut Whale on December 13 before an exhibition series with Team Japan. Boston is back in action on Sunday, December 20 at home against the Buffalo Beauts after traveling to Minnesota for a pair of exhibition games.
