Utica, NY- The nationally ranked No. 10 Utica College women’s hockey team was upset Saturday afternoon, as it fell to Stevenson University 2-1 in non-conference action.

The Pioneers fall to 5-5-2 on the season, while the Mustangs improve to 12-6. UC returns to action Tuesday as it travels to ECAC West foe Oswego State. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Despite outshooting the visitors 36-13 on the day, Utica was only able to net one goal. Facing a 2-0 deficit with less than five minutes remaining, junior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) netted her team leading tenth goal of the season, assisted by senior Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks). Schwartz won the faceoff and took a shot on goal, the rebound popper right to Reed who roofed a shot into the top right corner to put UC on the board.

Stevenson goalie Sarah Modzelewski had a strong game in net, turning aside 35-of-36 shots. Sophomore Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) had 11 saves for Utica.
