ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) recognized 15 members of the nationally-ranked Elmira College women’s ice hockey team with 2017-18 All-Academic Team honors, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

To qualify for the UCHC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must maintain a grade-point average of 3.20 or higher during the 2017-18 academic calendar. In its inaugural season, the conference rewarded 130 skaters from each of its nine member institutions for their hard work in the classroom.

The Soaring Eagles matched last year’s total with 15 honorees on this season’s All-Academic Team. It marks the eighth consecutive season that Elmira has placed 10-or-more student-athletes on the annual list.

Highlighting the UCHC All-Academic Team are Ari Smith ’18 and Sarah Hughson ’18, who were both elected to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Women’s At-Large Teams, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Smith, who won the prestigious NCAA Elite 90 Award at the 2018 Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship, is just the second student-athlete in EC history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors, while Hughson was included on the Third Team.

In addition to Smith and Hughson, classmates Louisa Lippiatt Durnell ’18, Kelcey Crawford ’18 and Meghan Fonfara ’18 were each honored for the third time in their collegiate careers. Fellow senior Rachel Grampp ’18 joined juniors Kristin Chivers ’19, Katie Granato ’19, Meg Lahey ’19 and Shannon Strawinski ’19 as two-time award winners. Freshmen Jess Adams ’21, Elizabeth Hanson ’21, Bella Hanson ’21, Sydney Harris ’21 and Tristen Tolan ’21 appeared on the All-Academic List for the first time in their careers.
