NEW YORK, N.Y. – Union College alumnae Ashley Johnston ’14 (Burlington, Ontario) and Shenae Lundberg ’15 (Peterborough, N.H.) have signed free-agent contracts with the New York Riveters of the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL). The four-team NWHL begins its inaugural season on Oct. 11. The Riveters will play home games at the Aviator Sports Center in Brooklyn.

“We’re bringing in two solid, consistent players with Lundberg and Johnston,” said Riveters general manager Dani Rylan. “Shenae helped bring Union to the next level and we look for her to have a similar impact with the Riveters, and Ashley is a strong blue liner who’s always in the right place and not afraid to jump up into the play.”

Johnston spent this past season as a volunteer coach with the Dutchwomen after completing her senior season in 2013-14. She received Union College’s Athletic Award for Community Service and Outreach and was named a candidate for the Hockey Humanitarian Award. In her final season on the blueline, Johnston recorded a career high six points (3-3-6) while ranking second on the team in blocked shots (59) and fifth in shots on goal (53).

A goaltender, Lundberg received the Robert M. Ridings Memorial Award and played in all 34 contests during her senior season, posting a 2.95 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. Her 1,110 saves led the nation and ranked second all-time in school history. Lundberg finished with 3,023 career saves, which ranks 20th all-time in NCAA history.
