Statesmen Move Up to No. 5 In The Nation

The Hobart College hockey team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the nation in this week’s USCHO.com poll. The Statesmen remained at No. 6 in the D3hockey.com poll.

Hobart opened the season with a 3-1 win over then No. 10/11 Babson on Friday night. On Saturday, the Beavers battled back for a 3-3 tie with the Statesmen.

Senior Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.) leads Hobart with three goals. Sokol is tied for second in the ECAC West in goals. Senior Bo Webster (Aurora, Ontario) chipped in a goal and an assist on opening weekend. Junior Frank Oplinger (Sewickley, Pa.) played all 125 minutes in goal and posted a 1.92 goals against average and a .952 save percentage. He ranks second in the conference in goals against average and save percentage.

The Statesmen are back in action on Friday, Nov. 4, when they travel to take on Lebanon Valley (0-1-1) in their ECAC West opener in Annville, Pa. , at 7:30 p.m.
