Statesmen Move Up To No. 5 In The D3hockey.com Poll

The Hobart College hockey team moved up two spots to No. 5 in this week’s D3hockey.com poll and remained at No. 9 in the USCHO.com poll.

Hobart (8-2-2) begins the second half of its season with a pair of non-conference games this weekend at the Cooler. The Statesmen will host No. 4/8 Geneseo on Friday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m., while Brockport will travel to Geneva on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff.

Hobart is led offensively by senior Mac Olson’s 14 points (8g, 6a). Classmate Brad Robbins is right behind him with seven goals and six assists for 13 points. Ben Gamache leads the team with eight assists this season. Olson and Robbins are fifth and seventh, respectively, in the ECAC West in points. Junior Nick Bingaman is tied for second in the conference with six power-play points.

In goal, Lino Chimienti has played most of the minutes and leads the ECAC West in goals against average (1.57), save percentage (.951), and wins (8). In front of him, the Statesmen defense leads the ECAC West in scoring defense (2.08 goals per game). Chimienti is sixth in the nation in save percentage, eighth in goals against average, and 10th in winning percentage (.818).

The Knights enter the weekend with an 8-1-2 overall record and have been idle since a 5-3 victory over Nazareth on Dec. 13. Geneseo is led offensively by Stephen Collins who has 19 points on eight goals and a team-high 11 assists. Collins shares team-high assist honors with Anthony Marra. Trevor Hills leads the team with 11 goals. Collins is fifth in the nation in points per game (1.83) while Hills leads the nation with seven power-play goals and is second in the nation in goals per game (1.10). Devin McDonald has seen a majority of the minutes between the pipes for the Knights and owns a 2.10 goals against average and a .923 save percentage in his rookie campaign.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Elmira on Friday before making the trip up the lake to face Hobart on Saturday. Brockport enters the weekend with a (6-5-2) overall record after winning the Codfish Bowl hosted by UMass Boston Jan. 2-3. The Golden Eagles dispatched Westfield State 5-1 for the championship. Chase Nieuwendyk leads Brockport with 10 goals and 20 points. Ryan Kangas has recorded a team-high 11 assists and is second on the team with 18 points. Jared Lockhurst has seen most of the playing time in goal for the Golden Eagles, recording a 3.22 goals against average and a .900 save percentage in eight games.
