CANTON, N.Y.-Senior assistant captain Amanda Lucky (Kanata, Ontario/Clarkson University) scored three times and recorded two assists as the SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team (12-8-3) downed SUNY Canton (8-14-3) 5-2 at the Roos House on Sundayafternoon. The victory ties the program’s single-season of best of 12 wins set in 2012. Bears senior forward Jessica Silviera (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) and Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge) each had a goal and two assists to reach the 30-point plateau for the season.

The Kangaroos had the momentum early, aided by a Potsdam penalty. However, Canton didn’t score and Lucky drew first blood helpers from Silveira and Ott at 14:40. The Kangaroos outshot the Bears 9-8 in the most even period of game, but trailed 1-0 at the first intermission.

Canton tied the score just 56 seconds into the second period on the power play. Abbey Diabo centered a pass from behind Potsdam’s net that went off the skates off a Bears defender and into the net. Silveira got the Bears back in front 13 seconds later with assists from Lucky and Ott. After Potsdam killed off a Canton power play five minutes later, the Roos were called for four straight penalties and six of seven. Canton killed five, but Ott made them pay on the sixth with 32 seconds remaining in the middle period.

Lucky made it 4-1 51 seconds into the final period with assists from sophomore defenseman Katie Marsman (Wantagh, N.Y./Wyoming Seminary) and senior captain Brittany Lucky(Kanata, Ontario/Ottawa Senators). At 7:31, Karley Cree scored a shorthanded goal off a turnover at the Bears blue line to cut the gap to 4-2. Less than two minutes later, Lucky closed the scoring and completed the hat trick on an assist from Silveira to make it 5-2.

In goal, Potsdam sophomore Alexane Rodrigue (Monkland, Ontario/Bemidji State) made 20 saves for her 10th win of the season, improving on her own program record for single-season wins. Shayna Dominique made 34 stops for Canton.

The Bears outshot the Kangaroos 39-22 and were 1-7 on the power play to Canton’s 1-6.

Silveira has a slim 31 to 30-point team lead in scoring over Ott this season, just one point shy of Annmarie Lewis’ 2012 record of 32. Silveira now has 78 career points (34g, 44a) and needs eight more to pass Breanna Roy ’12 for second place on the program’s all-time scoring list.

Potsdam wraps up the regular season next weekend with a home-and-home series with Utica College. The Bears host the Pioneers on Senior Day next Saturday at 3 p.m. Potsdam then travels to the Aud in Utica the following afternoon of for a 4 p.m. contest. The Bears, currently in fourth place, have already clinched a playoff spot and could finish anywhere from third to fifth in the ECAC West.
