POTSDAM, N.Y.-SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey coach Jay Green has been named the Northeast Women’s Hockey League’s first ever Coach of the Year. It’s the second such honor for Green, who claimed the same accolade in the old ECAC West for the 2011-12 campaign.

In his 11th season, Green, who restarted the program as a club team in 2007-08, guided his Bears to a 12-12-2 overall record and a 4-10-2 mark in the NEWHL’s first season. The 12 victories tied the program’s single-season wins record and helped Potsdam to its fifth playoff appearance in the last seven seasons. The Bears allowed a program single-season low 2.27 goals-per-game this year and ranked 10th in the nation with a penalty kill of 89.7 percent.

Green’s freshman goaltender Samantha White (Oceanside, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) earned the conference’s Rookie of the Year award, while senior captain Anna-Rose Bertin (Marathon, Ontario/Canadian International Hockey Academy) and sophomore defenseman Delphine LĂ©onard (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson College Prep) each earned spots on the All-NEWHL second team.

Through 10 varsity seasons at Potsdam, Green has compiled a record of 99-133-20. His program has produced 13 all-conference players, two rookies of the year, one national rookie of the year and one professional player.
