The NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that they have signed Clarkson’s Jr. Captain, Josh Dunne to a two year NHL Entry Level Contract. Josh will report to the teams’ AHL affiliate in Cleveland immediately.
“We are extremely excited for Josh. This is a great opportunity and one that he has worked extremely hard for.” said Clarkson Head Coach, Casey Jones. “As a coach I can tell you that Josh combines everything that you want in a student athlete. He is a complete player, the consummate teammate, and a motivated student in the class room. He was a pleasure to coach.”
Josh will come to Columbus via some familiar names to Clarkson fans, the Blue Jackets General Manager, Jarmo Kekalainen, is a former Golden Knight, that like Dunne also wore #21 and Director of Player Development and GM of the Cleveland Monsters is former Clarkson Forward, Chris Clark. “Josh is a player who we have been watching for a few years now and his character on and off the ice and style of play fit in with the Blue Jacket organization seamlessly” said former Golden Knights Captain, Clark.
Jones felt that their connection helped them understand that Josh was more than just a big power forward, but also a character guy they would want in the locker room and while it’s tough to lose a talent and leader like Josh, its a great step for the 6th player in the last 5 years to sign a NHL deal, “Josh is a program first guy. We talked at length after last season about his development and we have prepared for this scenario. We are excited to watch his progression.”
Dunne left this morning for Cleveland where he will enter the teams COVID safety protocols and hopes to be practicing by mid week, “I am excited to take this next step in my hockey career. I spoke with Mr. Kekalainen and Mr. Clark and I am grateful of the chance they have given me with the Blue Jackets.” said Dunne.
Dunne will join the Monsters that are 4-3-1 in the Central Division. The AHL began play on Feb 5th.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – In the ninth-longest game in NCAA Ice Hockey history, Colin Bilek scored his 18th of the season in the third overtime to send the Army West Point hockey team to the Atlantic Hockey Semifinals with a 4-3 win over Sacred Heart.
It was also the longest game in Atlantic Hockey history and longest in Army’s history. With the win, the Black Knights now have the longest unbeaten since the 1983-84 season when they won 16 games in a row under head coach Jack Riley. The Black Knights are unbeaten in their last 13 games.
Bilek extended his goal-scoring streak to seven games with the winner and Trevin Kozlowski was a brick wall all night with a career high 42 saves between the pipes.
“We got down two goals, but we had been there before,” head coach Brian Riley said. “We tied it up and then we went down and then Thomas Farrell scored a big goal for us. It was an unbelievable battle and wouldn’t you figure that Colin Bilek scores the winning goal.”
Bilek scored the gamewinner with 6:40 on the clock in the third overtime. He redirected the puck with his skate on a feed by Mitch Machlitt and the puck found its way past John Benson, who played an incredible game for Sacred Heart with 68 saves.
“Everybody wanted to score that one,” Bilek said after his tally in the third overtime. “Luckily it just went off my skate and in, so we are going to take them anyway they come, but kind of happy the game is just over.”
Army got to that position thanks to Farrell’s goal in third period to tie the score at 3-3. With 7:39 left in regulation with Farrell firing the puck into the back of the net from the slot. Machlitt avoided a sprawling defender and put the puck on a silver platter for Farrell and he beat Benson to tie the game at 3-3 to force overtime.
The Pioneers took their first lead of the series late in the first period with Braedan Tuck chipping the puck over a sprawling Kozlowski on the power play. Sacred Heart took the 2-0 advantage on the power play again early in the second period with Austin Magera finding the back of the net from the slot on a feed from Marc Johnstone.
The Black Knights got one back on the power play as well with Eric Butte redirecting a shot in front of Benson to cut the Pioneers lead to 2-1. Daniel Haider worked the puck off the boards and slid it over to Lincoln Hatten at the point and he put the puck on net for Butte to tip in.
Army knotted the score with 3:27 remaining in the second with a strong goal from Mason Krueger on the break. Bilek fed him the puck after crossing the blueline and right before he was about to be checked, Krueger pushed the wrister past Benson to tie the game at 2-2.
Patrick Dawson put the Pioneers back on top less than two minutes later with a perfect shot off the post and in to give the visitors the 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Army outshot Sacred Heart, 38-16, in the three overtimes and had the lone power play chance.
The Black Knights will await their opponent for the semifinals as Niagara forced a game three against Robert Morris, which will be played on Sunday evening.

For the sixth time in the past nine years, Canisius has advanced to their conference’s final four with a convincing 6-2 victory over third-seed RIT and a sweep of their best-of-three series. The Golden Griffins followed their season-long pattern of falling behind early (outscored this season by eight goals in the first and outscoring their opponents by 19 goals the rest of the game) though they did jump out to a 1-0 lead on a Max Kouznetsov tally off a great feed from senior captain Grant Meyer at 2:51 of the first period.
“I really didn’t see anything,” Meyer said about his pass. “It was more instinct and kind of a blind pass. I wouldn’t recommend it.”
The Tigers tallied two goals on the power play later in the first as seniors Jake Hamacher and Dan Willett scored at 10:46 and 14:51 respectively for a 2-1 advantage.
“I don’t what it has been—the first five or ten minutes have been rough this year, but we have a saying of being in the present,” Meyer said. “We just need to figure out how to have a better first five minutes next game.”
But it was all Canisius the rest of the game with two goals in the second period to take the lead and three more in the third—two on an empty-net.First-Team All-Conference West Pod forward Keaton Mastrodonato tied the game 2-2 just as a Golden Griffins penalty expired as he raced down the right wing and beat the RIT goaltender high glove side at 3:39 of the second.Senior captain Grant Meyer then netted a power play marker with assists from Lee Lapid and Mastrodonato at 14:09 to put the Griffs up 3-2 after two periods.
The back-breaker came shorthanded with 4:49 remaining as Simon Gravel fed Lapid to give the Griffs a two-goal cushion prior to empty-net tallies by Mitchell Martan and Ryan Miotto.Sophomore goaltender Jacob Barcewski made 29 saves in net.
“Defense did a really nice job in the first period especially blocking shots and clearing the rebound,” Barcewski said.
Canisius awaits the results of other semi-final series before finding out their opponent in the semi-finals. The lower seed in the West plays the higher seed in the East (AIC) and vice-versa next weekend in single elimination.

Canisius scored four goals in the second period to break open a close contest and record a 5-2 victory over RIT in game one of their 2021 Atlantic Hockey Tournament quarterfinal round series Friday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.
Freshman Cooper Haar, sophomore David Melaragni, junior J.D. Pogue and senior Austin Alger all found the back of the net during the middle frame for the Golden Griffins (9-5-0), who took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series with Friday’s victory. Sophomore Ryan Miotto opened the scoring with a first-period tally and added an assist for a two-point evening.
Sophomore goaltender Jacob Barczewski matched his season high with 35 saves between the pipes for Canisius as the Tigers (9-8-2) held a 37-23 shot advantage for the contest.
With the score tied at 1-1 at the start of the second, Haar gave the Griffs a 2-1 lead less than four minutes into the middle frame, beating RIT goaltender Ian Andriano with a wrist shot to the blocker side from the middle of the slot for his first collegiate tally.
Melaragni expanded the Canisius advantage to 3-1 at the 8:39 mark of the second, depositing a centering feed from junior Mitchell Martanover the glove of Andriano for his second of the season.
Pogue stretched the margin to 4-1 with a shorthanded tally just past the midway point of the period, beating Andriano with a wrist shot to the blocker side from the right faceoff circle for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Willett brought the Tigers within two just moments after Pogue’s shorthanded strike, firing a slap shot from the top of the point that beat Barczewski to the blocker side for a power-play goal to make it a 4-2 contest.

Will Calverley brought RIT level less than two minutes later, answering for the visitors by placing a cross-ice feed from Kobe Walker under the crossbar to knot the score at 1-1, setting the stage for the Griffs second-period outburst.
Head Coach Trevor Large‘s Postgame Comments “Come playoff time, the goal is to win hockey games. We knew it was going be a good hockey game and it really was tonight; two good teams go into battle. Like I said earlier, playoff time is time to win. So, we take the win, we get ready and prepared as we start to out-recover our opponent in order to be fully dialed in come puck drop tomorrow at seven.
“If you look at RIT’s games in the past, they do come out strong. That’s something that we knew. It didn’t back us down, but they had a little bit of the play early in the game. With Barzo (Jacob Barczewski) in goal, we got full faith in him to come up with saves that we need. I know what he would say was tonight he didn’t have to make huge saves, although they out-shot us tonight, we were able to keep them to the outside and were able to limit second and third-chance opportunities for them. So, I’d say a lot of volume for Barzo tonight, but in terms of quality, I was happy with how we defended even though maybe the start of our game was not our best.
“We listen to the players. We’re already talking with them about why they felt we won the game. Our staff will do the same. Talk with each other about why did we win the game tonight and what are the things that we can carry over to get the same result and what are the things that we need to improve on for tomorrow. So, we’re always going to listen. We’re going to challenge everything that we’re doing every moment of every day so that we can make the proper changes. Obviously, the goal is the same outcome as tonight. We know it’s going to be a tough game. We’re excited for the opportunity to live in the moment tomorrow.”
Game Notes • Canisius picked up its first postseason victory against RIT with Friday’s victory. The contest was just the third postseason matchup between the schools and the first since the 2015 AHA Tournament semifinals. • Canisius improved to 5-1-0 at LECOM Harborcenter this season with Friday’s victory. • The Griffs improved to 6-1-0 this season when scoring first. Canisius also moved to 9-2-0 in 2020-21 when scoring three or more goals in a game. • The Griffs improved to a perfect 7-0-0 this season when leading a game after 40 minutes. • Haar became the fifth different Canisius freshman to score a goal this season with his second-period tally. • All four of Pogue’s goals this season have come against the Tigers.
