ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Emma Hayes scored a pair of goals and assisted on two other goals to lead the Nazareth College Women’s Hockey team to a 5-0 victory over visiting Stevenson University Friday night at the Bill Gray’s Iceplex.

The game against Stevenson (4-2-0) was added to the schedule when the Nazareth (5-1-0) games against Manhattanville were postponed. Stevenson also had games postponed for the weekend so the two teams agreed to play twice in Rochester. Game two of the series is at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The shutout victory for the Golden Flyers is the fifth consecutive shutout.

Hayes assisted on the first two goals of the game as she set up junior Hailey Redders with the first goal of the game at the 7:51 mark of the opening period. In the second period, Hayes assisted on another goal as sophomore Ally Watrous finished a play that was set up by Hayes and sophomore Makenna Wiljanen.

Less than seven minutes later, Hayes scored her first career goal with an assist from junior Madison Nichols to give Nazareth a 3-0 lead.

Nichols scored in the third period to stretch the lead to 4-0 as Redders earned the assist and then Hayes finished the scoring with 4:45 remaining as Nichols and Redders had the helpers.

Nichols and Redders each finished with a goal and two assists.

Junior goalie Adrianna Brehm needed to make just 12 saves for the shutout victory as the Nazareth defense dominated the game with several blocked shots.
