OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team remained perfect on the year with a 6-0 victory over Chatham University on Saturday afternoon at the Marano Campus Center Arena. With the win, Oswego improves to 4-0-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in the ECAC Women’s West while the Cougars drop to 0-2-0, 0-2-0.

Oswego ripped off four goals in the first 15 minutes of regulation to put the contest in cruise control. It was the first time the Lakers recorded four tallies in the same period since Feb. 18, 2015 in a 5-1 win over William Smith College. In that tilt, Oswego needed those four in the final period to break a 1-1 tie through the first 40 minutes. Saturday’s four notches in the opening minutes set the tone for the duration.

Olivia Ellis and Alexa Aramburu led the way for the Lakers with three-point outings. Ellis – an assistant captain – scored twice and assisted on another while Aramburu earned all three on helpers. Freshman Natalie Giglio collected her first multiple-point game, notching the first goal of the game and assisting on the team’s fourth. Also finishing with two points was junior Andrea Noss, assisting on Oswego’s second and fifth goals. Rounding out the Laker point scorers were Victoria Rankin, Kendall Appelbaum and Jacquelin White all with goals while Alli Ullrich and Kate Randazzo each had assists.

In net, freshman Amber Samonek played the entire tilt, clinching her first-career shutout by making 20 saves. Overall, Oswego outshot the Cougars 41-20 on the day.

The Lakers’ special teams were solid throughout, converting 3-of-5 power-play chances while successfully killing two Chatham extra-skater opportunities. Two of Oswego’s power-play goals were scored by Ellis while Appelbaum’s represented the team’s third.

Oswego will return to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday when Cortland comes to campus for the first of a two-game weekend series.
