Three players scored their first goals of the season to help the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (3-3-1, 3-2-0 ECAC West) defeat Neumann (2-2-1, 2-1-0 ECAC West), 4-2, on Saturday night. Special teams play also played a role in the victory, as the Lakers posted three power-play goals and killed off four penalties.

The first period went by without either team scoring. However, it was not for a lack of opportunity as the Lakers killed off a 5-on-3 situation that lasted for 46 seconds.

Less than three minutes into the second period, the Lakers capitalized on a Neumann roughing penalty as Megan Hagg (Jr., Pickering, Ontario) put the puck past the goalie for her first goal wearing an Oswego State jersey. Assists came from Emma Smetaniuk (Jr., Frankford, Ontario) and Olivia Boersen(Jr., Stratford, Ontario) for the lone goal of the stanza.

Neumann knotted the score at 1-1 three minutes into the third period when Megan Russelo scored unassisted. Boersen made sure the score was not tied for long, though, as she scored on the power play with an assist going to Lizzy Marks(Fr., Penfield, N.Y).

Less than a minute later, the Knights tied the game again on Russelo’s second goal of the night. Bailee Goodon (Fr., Boissevain, Manitoba) scored her first collegiate goal at 8:40 to put the Lakers ahead for good with Marks earning the assist. Breanne Reith(Sr., East St. Paul, Manitoba) added an insurance goal with seven minutes remaining in the game on a pass from Melissa Seamont (Jr., North Bay, Ontario) and Smetaniuk. The marker was the first collegiate goal of Reith’s career.

Bridget Smith (So., Hamburg, N.Y.) picked up the win after making 19 saves, while Shannon Donnell
