MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The power-play unit for the No. 1-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team (5-0-0, 4-0-0 SUNYAC) recorded four goals to push the Lakers past Morrisville (0-6-0, 0-5-0 SUNYAC), 5-1, Friday night. The visitors ended the game 4-for-8 with the extra attacker, while the Mustangs went 0-for-4.

It wasn’t just a banner night for the power-play unit, as senior forward Luke Moodie (Oakville, Ontario) etched his name in the Oswego State record books by becoming the 49th player to join the 100-Point Club with a goal late in the second period. Moodie has posted 46 goals and 54 assists in 87 games. He joins linemate Jon Whitelaw (Sr., Huntsville, Ontario), who reached 100 career points last season.

Matt Singleton (Sr., Whitby, Ontario) opened the scoring for the Lakers at 5:44 in the first period when he posted his second goal of the year. Chris Brown (Sr., Centreville, Ontario) and Zach Josepher (Sr., Wantagh, N.Y.) assisted the marked that came over a minute into a Morrisville hooking penalty. The lead lasted less than five minutes as the Mustangs’ James Jarvis knotted the score at 1-1 after being on the receiving end of a Ryan Marcuz pass, which was where the score remained at the end of one.

In the second period, Oswego State broke the game open with three goals, including two on the power play. Chris Ayotte (Sr., Cornwall, Ontario) triggered the run with his third goal of the season on a Jesse McConney (Sr., Barrie, Ontario) assist at the 4:01 mark. Josepher made it a three-goal contest almost midway through the frame when he scored four seconds into a Morrisville elbowing penalty. Assists went to Bobby Gertsakis (So., Pickering, Ontario) and Chris Muise (Sr., Oakville, Ontario) on the play. The last power-play goal came with two seconds remaining on a Mustang cross-checking penalty at 15:13. Paul Rodrigues (Sr., Etobicoke, Ontario) and Brown found Moodie open for the landmark goal, which made the score 4-1 and prompted Morrisville to replace starting goalie Christopher Azzano with Jakob Rasmussen. Azzano finished the game with 22 saves.

Brown added a goal of his own in the third at 11:46, while on the power play again as Gertsakis tacked on his second assist of the night.

Andrew Hare (Sr., Burlington, Ontario) registered 27 saves, including 12 in the second period, while Rasmussen finished with 20 in the relief effort.

The Lakers return to the Campus Center Ice Arena next weekend with conference match-ups against Buffalo State and Fredonia on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both games start at 7 p.m.
