FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York, N.Y. – June 8, 2015: The NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) will host its inaugural draft on June 20, 2015 in Boston. General Managers from each of the league’s Founding Four organizations will gather to select the next group of players who will have the opportunity to join the league in 2016, after the completion of their college careers.

A draft eligible player has completed her junior year at a four year accredited college. After the completion of her college career, a player may sign with the team that drafted her, or opt into free agency. Players are not required to pay a fee to enter the draft. The NWHL will announce each draft pick live via a social media blitz starting at 12 p.m. EST. Those interested in live updates should follow @NWHL_ on Twitter, as well as each of the four teams: @TheBostonPride, @BuffaloBeauts, @CTWhale_NWHL, @NYRiveters. Information can also be found on Facebook, Instagram, and NWHL.co, which will host a Draft Live page on June 20.

“We’ve built the NWHL to serve as a league where women can continue to grow and train as world class athletes after college and are looking forward to the next wave of talent,” said Dani Rylan, NWHL Commissioner. “The response to our league has been extremely positive, and we’re looking forward to having all of our team rosters finalized and starting the season.”

The New York Riveters was selected in the recent lottery to have the first draft pick, followed by the Connecticut Whale, Boston Pride, and Buffalo Beauts.

The NWHL Foundation recently completed its domestic team camps in the Founding Four cities and will host an international camp July 23 to 27, 2015 in Boston. Following the end of free agency on August 17, the four teams will finalize their rosters for the 2015-16 season, which begins in October 2015.
