New York, NY — The National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) today announced the retirement of all four inaugural season jersey designs.

The Boston Pride jersey, based on a design by fan Emily Scherer, was worn at the team’s appearance at the 2016 Outdoor Women’s Classic at Gillette Stadium and an exhibition series at Ridder Arena against the Minnesota Whitecaps. The jersey of the first-ever Isobel Cup champions featured black, white, and yellow striping in a traditional Boston style.

The Connecticut Whale wore jerseys this season based on a design by fan Tabitha Hummel, which featured a wave pattern in lieu of stripes on the sleeves and body. The color scheme was a nod to the Hartford Whalers of the NHL and Connecticut’s hockey history.

The Buffalo Beauts’ jerseys, based on a design by fan Gabrielle Schofield, had a colorful blue accent stripe added to the grey and black color scheme before the puck dropped last October. The Beauts wore these jerseys in their historic comeback against the Connecticut Whale in the Isobel Cup semifinals on the way to the championship round.

The jersey of the New York Riveters, which featured the iconic Rosie crest and bright coloring, was based on a design by fan Brooks Freeman. The Riveters brought these jerseys all the way to Nikko, Japan, where they played an exhibition series against the Japanese National Team.

In its inaugural season, the NWHL saw specialty jerseys made for Strides For the Cure and Military Appreciation Night games, as well as the first NWHL All-Star Game. All-Star Game MVP Kelley Steadman’s jersey currently sits in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario.

The jersey designs for the NWHL’s second season will be determined by a fan vote. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite jersey design option on nwhl.zone/jerseys beginning today.
