Nazareth Cruises Past Fitchburg St.

PLATTSBURGH, NY – Sophomore John Power registered two first period goals and added an assist in a 5-2 victory over Fitchburg State in the consolation game of the W.B Mason Winter Classic held at Plattsburgh State Saturday night.

Nazareth snapped a three game losing skid with the win to improve to 3-6-4 overall, while Fitchburg State falls to 5-6-1.

The Golden Flyers made good on 2-of-3 extra man opportunities in the game, scoring both goals in the first five minutes of the game.

Scott Dawson scored for the second consecutive game just :59 seconds in, with the assists credited to Dominik Gabaj and Austin Romzek.

Nazareth scored late into its second power play of the contest, as John Power tallied an unassisted goal.

After the Falcons notched their first goal, Power was at it again at 12:24 with a goal. The score remained 3-1 in favor of the Golden Flyers until a goal from Mike Fish brought Fitchburg State to within 3-2 just over six minutes into the second period.

Senior Packy Jones came up big for the Golden Flyers late in the period after taking a pass from Power to help Nazareth regain a two goal advantage.

Romzek, who recorded two assists the day before, added a goal in the third period to push Nazareth’s cushion to 5-2.

Jones and Justin LaCorte each added an assist in the game.

Freshman Ty Hough made his first collegiate start, stopping 23-of-25 shots to earn the win.

Nazareth returns to action on next Saturday when it will host Oswego State at 7 p.m.
