LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Host Lake Forest easily handled Nazareth for the second straight day Saturday by scoring three times in the opening period and moving on to a 6-0 men’s hockey victory over the Golden Flyers.

The victory enabled the Foresters to complete a two-game sweep of the Golden Flyers, who dropped to 4-5-1 overall. Lake Forest, which also defeated the Golden Flyers 4-1 on Friday, improved to 7-4 overall with their fourth win in five games.

The Foresters scored three power play goals in Friday’s win and added two more Saturday, including one by Bron Loiselle at 16:14 of the first period to give the Foresters a 2-0 lead. Six different players scored for the home team and defenseman Mark Esshaki contributed three assists and Connor Duncan had two.

Nazareth had scoring chances, including four power play opportunities of their own, but Lake Forest goalie Billy Cooper stopped all 36 shots he faced to gain his first shutout of the season. Dominik Gabaj and J.R. Wojciechowski each had five shots for Nazareth. Phil Kreuser, Brian Miller and Brad Pizzey each had four.

Freshman Andy Lee made his first career start in goal for Nazareth and made nine saves while surrendering four goals in nearly 25 minutes. Sophomore Tyler Hough took over after Lake Forest’s fourth goal early in the second period and totaled 21 saves, while yielding two goals.

The game was scoreless until 14:19 of the first period when a goal by Drew Cleereman touched off a three-goal flurry in a five-minute stretch that gave the Foresters a commanding advantage. Lake Forest added two more goals in the second and another in the third.

Nazareth is back home Tuesday for a non-conference game against Buffalo State at the Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex at 7 p.m.
