Canton, NY – David Hopfer (Tonawanda, NY) scored his first collegiate goal but visiting Hamilton College earned a 4-1 victory on Saturday evening in the Roos House.

The Roos (1-7-1) were whistled for a slashing penalty 1:07 into the contest and 10 seconds later that paid off as the Continentals (3-0-1) converted on the power play. Jason Brochu fed the puck to Truman Landowski at the point who swung a cross ice pass to Jon Carkeek who rifled a shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Hamilton held an 11-8 shots advantage through 20 minutes of play.

Hamilton doubled its lead at 11:33 of the second when Bennett Morrison found Brandon Willett behind the goal. He played a quick pass to Neil Conway out in front who one-timed home his second goal of the season.

Hopfer got the Roos within one two minutes later when he stole the puck in the neutral zone and skated in sniping a shot top shelf past Continental goaltender Evan Buitenhuis. Michael Cerasuolo (Montreal, QC) turned aside 15 shots in the second period to keep the Roos within one after 40 minutes.

The Continentals added its third goal at 5:24 of the third period. Robbie Murden’s initial shot was saved by Cerasuolo but the rebound went right to Conway who put it home for his second point of the night. Hamilton added another insurance marker with 2:31 remaining as Richard Court picked off a pass in the Roos defensive zone and found Landowski resulting in the 4-1 final.
