MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State Men’s Ice Hockey team traveled to Stevenson University on Saturday night for both team’s season openers. For Stevenson, it was their first game in program history. Unfortunately, the Morrisville State Mustangs were on the losing side of that opener, falling to the host Mustangs, 7-1.

Stevenson scored their first goal just over 4 minutes into the first period of action. Eleven minutes later, the home Mustangs scored again on a power play goal, bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of Stevenson.

Morrisville was able cut the lead in half one minute into the second period when CJ Stubbs (Pleasant Grove, Vt.) found the back of the net on a power play goal. Joe Ftoma (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) assisted on the play.

However, that was the only goal that the visiting Mustangs could muster, as it was all Stevenson the rest of the way. The home Mustangs peppered both Morrisville goalies with 51 shots on goal, while only facing 13.

Stevenson would go on to score five unanswered goals for the final 7-1 victory.

Morrisville State will look to turn things around tomorrow evening as they face off again against Stevenson. The first face off is set for 5:30 PM.
