RYE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men’s hockey team saw their undefeated home record fall on Friday night as the Valiants dropped an ECAC West contest to Nazareth, 5-1, at Playland Ice Casino.

Nazareth (1-3-2. 1-3-1 ECAC West) opened up the scoring in the first period when sophomore C.J. Murray netted his second goal of the season off of a J.R. Wojciechowski and Brad Pizzey pass.

The Valiants would respond just two minutes later when senior Matt Coleman (Brentwood, N.Y./Springfield Pics (EJHL)) recorded his first goal of the season thanks to a great pass by freshman Kevin Loppatto (Atlanta, Ga./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) and sophomore Anthony Ragone (Babylon, N.Y./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) to tie the game at one.

The Golden Flyers would strike again in the second period as freshman Oliver Janzen scored on power play goal to regain the lead.

Nazareth was not done in the scoring department as the Gold Flyers netted three third period goals in less than 10 minutes to propel the Golden Flyers to their first win of the season.

Despite losing by four goals, Manhattanville (4-2, 2-2 ECAC West) outshot Nazareth 33-23.

Coleman led the Valiants with a goal on eight shots while freshman Marco Ferraro (Toronto, Ont./St. Michael’s Buzzers (OJHL)) and sophomore Stephen Gaul (Downers Grove, Ill./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) each had three shots.

The Valiants will look to bounce back on Saturday when Manhattanville welcomes Utica to Playland Ice Casino with the puck dropping at 7 p.m.
