It was a quiet week for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, as the team played just once in Ontario Junior Hockey League action this past week.

The team hit the road for a quick trip to face the Mississauga Chargers on Saturday, September 24. They carried a 5-2 win back over the border.

Although the Chargers took a quick 2-0 lead within the first five minutes of the game, the Jr. Sabres found their stride and tied it up halfway through the opening frame. Colton McKenna and Adam Tretowicz kicked off the scoring for the Buffalo squad.

After scoring twice in the first, Buffalo duplicated that effort in the second, with goals from Andrew Pizzo and Christian DiFelice. Michael Faliero sealed the deal with a power-play tally in the third.

DiFelice, McKenna, Faliero, Erik Urbank and Billy McGwin each notched two poitns in the victory. Tucker Weppner played a solid game in net, stopping 39 of 41 shots faced.

McKenna earned first-star honors, while Weppner got third star. Buffalo’s Jared Murray was named second star.

After two weeks of action, DiFelice, Faliero and Urbank are in a three-way tie for the points lead, having each notched seven points in six games. Cameron Radziwon still leads the Jr. Sabres with five goals in as many games this season, while both defenseman Jack Tucker and first-year forward Gianni Vitali have put up four points.

Weppner is 2-2-0-0 on the season with a 4.24 GAA and .895 save percentage, while Camarre is 1-1-0-0 with a 4.62 GAA and .860 save percentage.

After one light week, the Jr. Sabres now face a heavy workload. The OJHL Governors’ Showcase comes into town, with games starting today, Monday, September 26. The Jr. Sabres play three games between Monday and Friday, facing Aurora, Newmarket and North York, all at HARBORCENTER. They’ll close out the week with a visit to the Jr. Canadiens on October 2 before getting a week off.
