The Buffalo Jr. Sabres captured a 2-1 victory over the Georgetown Raiders on Wednesday in their final regular season home game.

Andrew Husted opened the scoring with his first Ontario Junior Hockey League goal just 2:42 into the game to give Buffalo an early 1-0 lead. Scott Ramaekers notched the lone assist for his first OJHL point.

The Jr. Sabres went on to have two goals disallowed in the second period, so what could’ve turned into a three-goal lead remained stuck at one. Goals were disallowed due to a delayed penalty (the first) and Georgetown’s net being off (the second).

Throughout the game, Tucker Weppner made several stellar stops to keep the Jr. Sabres up by just one goal.

With the team holding on to its 1-0 lead, the Jr. Sabres needed an insurance goal.

They got just that when Dylan Seitz potted his 12th goal of the season nearly halfway through the third period to put Buffalo up 2-0.

The Jr. Sabres found themselves in some late penalty troubles, with Evan Bennett and Andrew Husted both getting late calls to give Georgetown a 5-on-3 advantage.

With just under two minutes remaining in regulation, the Raiders’ Andrew Court made it a one-goal game and gave Georgetown a real chance to rally back.

Despite that, Buffalo stayed strong until the end and held on for the victory.

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres close out the regular season with a visit to Mississauga Saturday night.

Playoff information, including final seeding and full schedules, will be released in the coming days. Stay tuned to the Jr. Sabres’ website for that information as it’s released.
