Jackals’ Karabacek Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – December 6, 2016 – The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres and the AHL’s Rochester Americans, proudly celebrating our 10th season in the ECHL, announced in conjunction with the ECHL that forward Vaclav Karabacek has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 21-27.

Karabacek scored three goals, including his first professional goal, added three assists and was a +5 in three games last week.

The 20-year-old had a goal in a 4-3 overtime loss to Kalamazoo on Wednesday, recorded four points (2g, 2a) in a 7-4 win over the K-Wings on Friday and had an assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to Brampton on Sunday.

A second-round selection (49th overall) of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Karabacek has eight points (3g, 5a) in six games for the Jackals this season.

Prior to turning pro, Karabacek scored 117 points (56g, 61a) in 171 career games with Gatineau, Baie-Comeau and Moncton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

On behalf of Vaclav Karabacek, a case of pucks will be donated to an Elmira youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 35,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
