On January 17, 2016, the Iroquois Varsity Hockey team played an impressive offensive game against City Honors/Cardinal O’Hare with a 5-0 victory. Early in the first period, Iroquois Ryan Coulombe with a pass to Tim McCormick who takes a shot that is then stuffed in the net by Sam Rider gets the Chief’s first tally. The next goal, less than a minute later, was a tip in by Iroquois Alex Held on the pass from Alden’s Gage Muller to Iroquois Jamie Bonn.

In the second period, the Chief’s continued to dominate the score board when Cameron Giancarlo picks up a loose puck, walks it down the half wall with a pass into the slot to Alex Held who scores. Alden’s Spencer Hrynczak tips in the next goal on a pass from Gage Muller to Iroquois Garrett Miller. For the final goal of the game, Sam Rider backhands the puck into the slot to Spencer Hrynczak who leaves it for Gage Muller to finish off.

With Iroquois honoring their senior players and parents, Iroquois seniors included goaltender Tyler Fredette, Forward Ryan Coulombe and Alden’s Gage Muller. Senior goaltender Tyler Fredette played a great defensive game earning the Chiefs their third shutout of the season.

In a hard fought battle against the Cheektowaga Highlanders at Depew Ice Rink on January 25, 2016, the Chiefs suffered a defeat 6-4. Staying in the game, by the end of the first period, the Chiefs were behind 1-0.

The second period showed the Chiefs fighting back with three goals all scored by Iroquois Alex Held. The first of Held’s goals was seen assisted by Alden’s Gage Muller to Iroquois Jamie Bonn. The second was again assisted by Muller and Iroquois freshman Colton Czajka. The third was a straight pass directly from Muller.

In the final period, the Chiefs were crippled with 5 penalties scoring only once. With 2:18 left on the clock, Alden’s Gage Muller scored assisted by Iroquois Alex Held and Garrett Miller.

With 14 games played, Iroquois is seated second in the division with a 10-4 record. They play Depew at Leisure Rinks January 24, 2016 at 8:45 PM, Jamestown in Jamestown January 30, 2016 at 2:30 PM and Buffalo at Leisure Rinks on January 31, 2016 at 8:45 PM.
