Fredonia Drops Conference Opener

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Brockport wasted little time in taking a lead, and would hold on to defeat the Fredonia men’s hockey team, 4-1, on Friday. The Golden Eagles’ Dylan Shapiro scored 53 seconds into the contest to help Brockport improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC.

Brockport upped its lead to 2-0 when Zac Sikich scored at the 13:54 mark.

Fredonia got on the board in the second period when Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa.) scored at the 6:10 mark. He was assisted by Tommy DeFelice (Tolland, Conn.). It was Polachek’s first goal of the season.

Brockport scored twice in the third period. Sikich scored his second goal of the game, and third of the season with five-and-a-half minutes left in the game. The Golden Eagles added an empty netter by Aidan Verbeke with 22 seconds left.

Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 26 saves for Fredonia, while Matt Schneider was credited with 38 saves for Brockport. Fredonia out shot Brockport, 39-30, and went 0-3 on power plays. Brockport was 1-for-5 on powers plays.

The Devils fall to 0-2 and 0-1 in the conference. Their home opener is Saturday at 7 p.m. when they take on Geneseo.
