ALBANY, NY — The Albany Devils late push was held off by the St. John’s IceCaps in a 2-1 decision Saturday at Times Union Center. Backed by Vojtech Mozik’s second goal of the season, the Devils pulled within one in the third period, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

The loss was Albany’s (23-11-6-0) second straight against St. John’s (19-14-6-3) in as many days. The IceCaps have won four straight against the Devils.

Despite the loss, Scott Wedgewood, who made 20 stops, was steady throughout the contest — especially in the first period when he made 11 stops including two breakaways. He lost for the first time in regulation in his last eight outings.

St. John’s Eddie Pasquale earned the win, which extended his team’s point streak to four games (3-0-1-0), with 32 saves.

Gabriel Dumont got the IceCaps on the board first, picking the upper left corner with a snap shot through a mass of bodies at 7:41 of the second.

The visitors increased their lead at the end of that same period when Sven Andrighetto put home a loose puck at 19:21 with the man advantage.

Albany turned it on in the third period and capitalized on their second power play of the game. Reece Scarlett fed Mozik for a one-timer from the top of the left circle at 2:25.

The team had its chances the rest of the way, outshooting St. John’s 13-6 in the third. Wedgewood went to the bench for the extra man with roughly 90 seconds on the clock, but Albany just ran out of time.
