HAMILTON – Colgate Women’s Ice Hockey ran into a tough St. Lawrence squad here Friday afternoon but came away with a 1-1 overtime draw.

The Raiders pick up a key point in a tight ECAC Hockey race, shifting their league record to 6-2-5 and keeping them in a tie with Clarkson. Colgate hosts those same Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon.

In Friday’s game, the Saints got on the board with a goal midway through the opening period from Kennedy Marchment.

St. Lawrence kept the one-goal lead through the second period, despite great offensive pressure from the Raiders. 22397

With just over six minutes left in the third, Breanne Wilson-Bennett scored the game-tying goal on the power play with help from Shae Labbe .

The Raiders continued to look for the go-ahead marker but regulation ended in a 1-1 tie.

Overtime saw several chances for both teams, but Julia Vandyk and Grace Harrison each came up with brilliant saves to end the game in a draw.

Vandyk was stellar between the pipes, turning away 23 of 24 shots. Harrison recorded 16 saves.

The Raiders are back in action Saturday when they host No. 5 Clarkson at 3 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at the start of the game.

• The Saints took the early 1-0 edge in the first period. The Raiders set up several great scoring chances in the remainder of the frame and continued that solid play into the second.
• Going into the third period down by one, Colgate came out looking to score. With just over six minutes remaining in the contest, Wilson-Bennett found the back of the net on the power play to tie the game at 1-1. Labbe had an initial shot that rang off the post, but Wilson-Bennett was there to gather the rebound and poke the puck past Harrison for the equalizer.
• Both teams were hungry for a win and that showed in overtime. The Raiders and Saints skated hard and each team saw several scoring opportunities. Ultimately, netminders Vandyk and Harrison were able to make the key saves to keep it all square, securing one conference point for each team.
