BUFFALO, NY – Jeyna Minnick (Rochester, NY/Greece-Arcadia) and Kara Goodwin (Avon Lake, OH/Avon Lake) each scored two goals, while Bri Carroll (Peoria, AZ/AZ Virtual Academy) tallied three assists to lead Buffalo State (2-2-1, 2-1-0 ECAC) to a dominating 6-2 win in the 2014-15 home opener against Neumann (0-5-0, 0-3-0 ECAC) in a conference matchup on Friday night at the Ice Arena.

The Bengals started off the game with three quick shots in the opening five minutes, but the Knights goalie came up with the saves.

Neumann took advantage of an early power play and netted the first goal of the game with 13:38 remaining in the first period.

Buffalo State did not waste time in getting on the board. Seven minutes after the Knights scored, Minnick scored her first goal of the season to tie things up.

The Bengals came out in the second period on fire offensively. Buffalo State took advantage of the power play, scoring two man-up goals and finished the period with four unanswered goals. Minnick tallied the Bengals first goal in the run, off a pass from Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/W. Seneca West). Erin Gehen (West Seneca, NY/W. Seneca West) recorded her first collegiate goal on a 5 on 3 with assists from Goodwin and Carroll. Goodwin tallied the third goal of the period and Kirchberger closed the scoring run with 1:31 left to play.

In the final period, Neumann made a push in the beginning but found themselves in too big of a hole. The Knights scored their second and final goal of the game 3:38 into play.

Buffalo State extended its lead back out to four after Goodwin netted her second goal of the game at 11:43.

Freshman Justine Silva (El Monte, CA/Arroyo) played extremely well for the Bengals, earning the win between the pipes and turning aside 18 of 20 shots faced.

The Bengals finished the game with a slight 21-20 advantage in total shots. Buffalo State was 2 for 5 on the power play, while Neumann was 1 for 5.
