Bedford, NY Native Zegras Scores OT Winner as US Comes From Behind To Down Canada White

DAWSON CREEK, B.C.- The U.S. National Under-17 Team came from behind to defeat Canada White, 4-3 in overtime in its second preliminary round game of the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Canada White struck first, cleaning up a rebound at 4:27 of the first period.

Canada White extended its lead, 2-0 at 9:07 of the first period putting the puck in the back of the net on the rebound after a breakaway.

The U.S. had several scoring chances but was kept off the scoresheet in the first period by Canada White.

At 17:47 of the second period Jack Hughes (Orlando, Fla.) sent the puck across the slot to Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) who put it in the back of the net for Team USA.

Cam York (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) cut Canada White’s lead 3-2 at 2:39 of the third period with help from Danny Weight (Lattington, N.Y.).

Hughes tied the game at three, skating to the front of the net and backhanding the puck in at 9:39 of the third period. Matthew Boldy (Millis, Mass.) and Caufield recorded assists on the goal.

Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) buried the game-winner at 2:45 of overtime to give Team USA the 4-3 win. Hughes tallied another assist on the goal, as did Marshall Warren (Laurel Hallow, N.Y.).

Team USA’s Cameron Rowe (Wilmette, Ill.) made 19 saves in the win while Canada White’s Jonathan Lemieux tallied 36 saves.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team is back in action tomorrow night, Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. MST/ 9 p.m. ET as it face-offs against Canada Black in its last preliminary round game of the World Under-17 Challenge.
