Army junior forward John Karanen scored a shorthanded goal with 1:20 remaining in regulation to give the Black Knights a 4-3 victory at RIT and a sweep of the weekend series after a 6-0 win Friday.

Army led 1-0 on a goal by Brett Abdelnour and 2-1 as Anthony Firriolo netted a power play marker, but RIT tied the game on goals from Will Calverly—his team leading 10th of the season—and Cody Laskosky to end the first period knotted 2-2.

Calverly scored his second of the game on the power in the second to give the Tigers their first lead of the game 3-2.

But Army senior Colin Bilek tied the game 3-3 with a power play goal at 12:38 of the third before Keranen’s game-winner.

“Against RIT it finally wet our way; we’ve had good games against them and been on the short end and having to kill a penalty and score shorthanded; just an unbelievable effort by our guys,” Army head coach Brian Riley said.

Army finishes the first half of the season with wins in seven of their last ten games along with one tie. They leapfrog the Tigers into third place in Atlantic Hockey with 18 points.

RIT is in fourth place with a 5-5-2 record and 17 points. Bentley is in first with 23 points; Canisius second with 19.
