CROMWELL, CT – Ken Appleby’s 26-save shutout performance helped the Albany Devils to a 2-0 victory against the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday at Champions Skate Center in Cromwell, CT. The win was the second for Albany during its two-game preseason warm up. Next up, the team begins the regular season Friday on the road against the Providence Bruins.

Against the Wolf Pack, Appleby turned aside seven shots in the first, 13 in the second and six in the third. Twice he was tasked with denying clear breakaway attempts. The first came against Nicklas Jensen during the opening period and the second was against Michael Joly during the middle frame.

Karl Stollery setup both Devils’ goals. A stretch pass at 4:36 of the second period allowed Brian Gibbons to go upstairs for the first tally. That same period, Rod Pelley redirected Stollery’s point shots to give the Devils a 2-0 advantage. Joshua Jacobs and Ryan Kujawinski earned secondary assists on the respective goals.

Pelley resumed his role as team captain with four-year pro Reece Scarlett and veteran Carter Camper served as alternate captains.

Hartford’s Magnus Hellberg finished with 32 stops.
