Canisius sophomore forward Austin Alger has been named the Atlantic Hockey Association’s Player of the Month for December, league officials announced on Friday.

A native of Livonia, Mich., Alger notched four goals and added an assist in three games to help guide the Golden Griffins to a 1-1-1 record during the final month of the calendar year.

Alger began December with a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory against Army as he assisted on Canisius’ opening tally before putting the game away with an insurance marker late in the third.

During the Griffs two-game series at No. 14 Union last weekend, Alger pitched in three goals, tallying the opening marker in both games and adding a second goal in the third period of the finale to record the first multiple-goal game of his career.

Heading into the New Year, Alger has been on fire offensively, tallying seven goals and three assists during his current point-scoring streak that stands at eight games. Alger has also scored in each of the last four contests for the Griffs, dating back to Nov. 30.
