ALBANY, NY – Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy and City of Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan will go head-to-head in the first ever Albany Devils Zamboni Race. The competition, which is open to the public, will take place Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 1:30 pm on South Pearl St. in downtown Albany in front of Times Union Center.

The race is part of the Devils’ continued celebration of the start of the 2015-16 season. The team opens the doors to the Times Union Center for its Home Opener on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 5:05 pm against the Portland Pirates. The first 5,000 fans will receive a free magnet schedule, courtesy of CDTA. Fans also have the option to purchase a 5, 10, 20 or 38-game ticket package and walk away with a commemorative Albany Devils Mr. Potato Head.

Additionally, the Zamboni sprint will also launch Mayor Sheehan’s “Cash for Coats” campaign. A collaboration between the City of Albany, the Albany Devils and Lodge’s Department Store, the program raises money to provide new winter clothing items — coats, hats, gloves and scarves — to students in need in the Albany School District. Fans are encouraged to make a monetary contribution at the race or at the Devils Home Opener to support the cause. Donations will also be accepted at Albany City Hall, Lodge’s Department Store, the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District office and the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center until Nov. 1.

The Devils will also participate in “Katie’s Koats” drive, supported by County Executive McCoy. That campaign will launch in late November and will accept new or used coats from men, women and children to benefit local homeless veterans and their families. More information on “Katie’s Koats” will be released at a later date.
