ROCHESTER, NY — Nine members of the RIT men’s hockey team were named 2018-19 American Hockey Coaches Association (ACHA) “Krampade All-American Scholars.” Nearly 500 Division I men’s and womens’ hockey players were honored for maintaining at least a 3.6 grade-point average in each semester during the 2018-19 academic year.

Juniors Adam Brubacher (Elmira, Ontario/Powell River Kings), Shawn Cameron (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Cumberland Grads), Ryan Kruper (Sherwood Park, Alberta/Sherwood Park Crusaders) and Brody Valette (Calgary, Alberta/Whitecourt Wolverines), along with sophomores Nick Bruce (Fall River, Nova Scotia/Johnstown Tomahawks), Alden Dupuis (Edmonton, Alberta/Bonnyville Pontiacs), Jake Hamacher (Corona, CA/Dubuque Fighting Saints) and freshmen Spencer Berry (White Rock, British Columbia/Langley Rivermen) and Jake Joffe (Toronto, Ontario/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) earned this prestigious honor for RIT. Brubacher is a three-time selection, while Cameron, Dupuis and Hamacher were honored for the second straight year.

“We are extremely proud of this group of student-athletes who have competed at the highest levels of the game on the ice and matched that performance in the classroom,” said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. “The sport demands a great deal from these athletes so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement.”

Last month, a program-record 23 Tigers earned Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team honors for maintaining a 3.0 or better GPA in each semester during 2018-19.

RIT finished with 17 wins and advanced to the Atlantic Hockey Semifinals in 2018-19. The Tigers kick off the 2019-20 season on Oct. 5 at Colgate. RIT hosts Merrimack University at Blue Cross Arena in downtown Rochester on Oct. 19 as part of Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend.
