50th Anniversary Celebration Set For ’67 NCAA Champion Cornell Men’s Hockey Team

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell Athletics and the Cornell Hockey Association will host a 50th Anniversary Reception for the 1967 NCAA champion men’s hockey team on Saturday, Jan. 28. The reception, which is open to the public, will be part of the weekend full of activities to honor and celebrate the Big Red’s first NCAA champion and the Ivy League’s first NCAA champion in the sport.

Among those expected to attend from the 1967 team are Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Ken Dryden, team co-captain Murray Deathe and NCAA tournament most outstanding player Walt “Skip” Stanowski.

The 50th Anniversary Reception will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28 in the G10 room of the Biotechnology Building, which neighbors Lynah Rink to the north. There will be hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar for the cost of $10 per person. Casual “Big Red” attire is recommended. The weekend will start off on Friday, Jan. 27, when the reunion group will be join Mike Schafer for the CHA’s Coaches’ Club lunch in advance of the annual rivalry home game against Harvard. The 1967 team alumni will then have breakfast with the current Big Red squad and watch the team’s game day skate on Saturday, Jan. 28 in preparation of another Ivy League game that night against Dartmouth. The team will then be honored with an on-ice ceremony during the first intermission of the game against the Big Green.
