Brady Wiffen selected to Commissioner’s List

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey team has placed 20 student-athletes on the 2018-19 ECAC Hockey All-Academic team, the league has announced. The Engineers saw 10 student-athletes earn the distinction for the first time. Senior Brady Wiffen was named to the Commissioner’s List, earning a 4.0 grade point average in his senior year.
Junior defenseman TJ Samec (St. Paul, MN/Brookings Blizzard) and sophomore goaltender Linden Marshall (Victoria, BC/Trail Smoke Eaters) were the two engineering majors to make the list, while the other 18 are Business and Management majors, including four-time recipient Tommy Grant (Sparta, NJ/Bay State Breakers). Junior Patrick Polino(Buffalo, NY/Lincoln Stars) was a three-time recipient, while Mike Gornall (Irwin, PA/University of North Dakota), Mat Harris (Sudbury, MA/Boston Jr. Bruins), Billy Jerry (River Falls, WI/Madison Capitals), Marshall and Samec were honored for the second time.
The 10 first-time honorees included transfers Shane Bear (Calgary, AB/University of Massechusetts) and Chase Zieky (Avon, CT/Providence College) as well as ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team goaltender Owen Savory (Cambridge, ON/St. Catharines Falcons).
Players are eligible for the All-Academic team if they earn a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or have a GPA over 3.00 over the past three semesters.
