Twelve Players Added to 2016 U.S. Men’s National Team
Group Joins Auston Matthews, Who Was Named to Team on March 24; Support Staff Also Named for 2016 IIHF Men’s World Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey announced today 12 players have been added to the U.S. Men’s National Team that will compete in the 2016 International Ice Hockey Fedeartion Men’s World Championship May 6-22 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia. The group joins Auston Matthews (Zurich Lions), a 2016 NHL draft eligible prospect, who was named to the U.S. Men’s National Team on March 24.

Matt Hendricks (Edmonton Oilers), who captained the U.S. Men’s National Team to a bronze medal at the 2015 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic, highlights the 12 players named today. Other players that have competed on a U.S. Men’s National team previously include Nick Foligno (Columbus Blue Jackets/2010, 2009), Jake McCabe (Buffalo Sabres/2014) and Connor Murphy (Arizona Coyotes/2015, 2014).

Among the 13 players named to the 2016 U.S. Men’s National Team overall, nine have skated for a U.S. National Team and have combined to win 14 medals in IIHF World Championship play.

Team USA’s roster currently has seven forwards, four defensemen and two goaltenders.

Support Staff Named for 2016 U.S. Men’s National Team
USA Hockey also announced today that Bob Webster (Centennial, Colo./USA Hockey) will serve as team leader, Scott Aldrich (Colorado Springs, Colo./USA Hockey) and Mark DePasquale (Chicago, Ill./Calgary Flames) as equipment managers, and Jason Serbus (Phoeniz, Ariz./Arizona Coyotes) and Stan Wong (Boca Raton, Fla./USA Hockey) will serve as athletic trainers. Additionally, Yani Zinis (Denver, Colo./Colorado Avalanche) will be the team physician; Peewee Willmann (Hannover, Germany) will serve as massage therapist; and Dave Fischer (Colorado Springs, Colo./USA Hockey) will handle communications.

NOTES: John Hynes (New Jersey Devils) is serving as head coach of the 2016 U.S. Men’s National Team … Of the current 13 players on the U.S. Men’s National Team roster, nine are alumni of the United States Hockey League, the only Tier I junior league in the United States; four spent time in the North American Hockey League, the only Tier II junior league in the U.S.; Nine have competed at the NCAA Division I level; and seven played for USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program … The staff and players of the 2016 U.S. Men’s National Team are selected by the U.S. Men’s National Team Advisory Group, led by Jim Johannson, assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. Other members include Stan Bowman (Chicago Blackhawks), Dean Lombardi (Los Angeles Kings), David Poile (Nashville Predators), Ray Shero (New Jersey Devils), Dale Tallon (Florida Panthers) and Don Waddell (Carolina Hurricanes).
