PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Chelsea VanGlahn recorded a hat trick as the nationally top-ranked Plattsburgh women’s ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 10-1, in an ECAC West matchup Saturday afternoon.

Junior Sky Timmons (Akwesasne/Salmon River H.S.) tallied her third goal of the season for the Red Dragons (2-10-2, 1-6-1 ECAC West). Freshmen Melanie van Vliet (Calgary, AB/Gilmour Academy) and Sydney Carlucci (Baldwinsville/Rochester Edge) each assisted on the score. Sophomore Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) started in goal, making 24 saves through the first period before giving way to freshman Kelly Farinella (Marlton, NJ/New Jersey Rockets), who stopped 25 shots over the final 40 minutes.

Allison Era added two goals for the Cardinals (14-0-1, 7-0), Giovanna Senese contributed one goal and two assists, Jordan Caldwell and Katelyn Turk each had one goal and one assist and Bridget Balisy and Maggie Kolcon netted one goal apiece. Ali Val\kos and Lizzie Aveson each chipped in with two assists. Goalie Cami Leonard registered 18 saves.

The Cardinals led just 2-0 until they closed the first period with a four-goal outburst in less than a five-minute span to make it a 6-0 lead after putting 30 shots on goal. Plattsburgh added four more goals in the second period, two by VanGlahn to stretch the advantage to 10-1. Timmons spoiled the shutout bid at 4:40 of the third as Cortland kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard in the final period.
