The Manhattanville men’s ice hockey team scored two minutes into overtime to clinch a 5-4 victory over No. 5 Hobart in an ECAC West game played tonight in Rye, N.Y. The Statesmen are now 17-4-2 overall and 10-3-0 in conference play, while the Valiants improve to 11-10-1 and 7-5-0 in the ECAC West.

Casper Dyrssen led Manhattanville scoring two goals, including the game winner through a scrum in front of the goal two minutes into the extra period. Cory Anderson and Jeff Beck were credited with the assists.

Nolan Marshall added a goal and an assist for the Valiants, and Beck and Teagan Waugh each logged two assists. Tyler Feaver played all 62 minutes in goal and made 47 saves.

Four different players scored for Hobart. Senior goaltender Lino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec) played all 62 minutes and finished with 20 saves. The Statesmen finished with a 51-25 advantage in shots.

Manhattanville jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two quick goals, coming 17 seconds apart in the first period. Kevin Loppatto scored first off assists from Axel Waltott and Eric Berglund at 6:44. At 7:01, Stephen Gaul made it 2-0 with his 12th goal of the year after passes from Marshall and Waugh. Junior Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.) capitalized on a Valiant turnover to put Hobart on the board at 11:57. First-year Jonas Toupal (Vcelna, Czech Republic) assisted Sokol’s seventh goal of the season.

At 8:19 into the second, Dyrssen gave Manhattanville a 3-1 advantage. Fabian Andark and Beck set up the play. First-year Cam Shaheen (North Andover, Mass.) produced his fourth goal of the year to make it 3-2 after a pass from junior Jon Neal (Encinitas, Calif.). Senior Brad Robbins (Murrieta, Calif.) tied the game up at 3-3 with 2:46 left in the middle period. His goal came right after a faceoff win by classmate Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.).

At 11:49 into the third period, junior Connor Simon (Manchester, N.H.) gave Hobart its first lead of the game. He carried the puck into the zone, maneuvering around Valiant defenseman before lifting his shot into the top left corner. It was his second goal this year. Classmate Mitch Beyer (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was credited with the assist. With just 3:57 left in regulation and just as a 5-on-3 situation for the Valiants had ended, Marshall sent the game into overtime after passes from Waugh and Matt Coleman.

Hobart went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Manhattanville finished 1-for-6.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow, Feb. 13, for another ECAC West contest at the Playland Ice Casino at 7 p.m.
