Utica Men’s Hockey Sets School Record For Goals In A Game

Pittsburgh, PA – The nationally-ranked Utica College men’s hockey team netted a school-record 13 goals as the Pioneers snapped a two game slide and cruised to a 13-1 victory over host Chatham University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action on Saturday night.

Utica freshman Conor Landrigan (New Tripoli, PA/Binghamton Jr. Sens (NAHL)) totaled a team-best five points on three goals and two assists while senior forward Anthony McVeigh (Kemptville, Ontario/Carleton Place (CCHL)) added four points on one goal and three assists. All 18 of Utica’s skaters recorded at least one point on the afternoon.

UC improved to 4-2 overall on the evening and 2-2 in UCHC action. Chatham’s record dropped to 0-5-1 and 0-4 in league play.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 4-0 first period lead and never looked back. Gregg Burmaster (Clinton, NY/Colorado College (NCHC)), Dalton Carter (Toledo, OH/Northern Cyclones (EHL)), Mikhail Bushinski (St. Paul, MN/Kenai River (NAHL)) and Roman Ammirato (Williamstown, NJ/Union College (ECAC)) each netted a first period goal to help the Pioneers earn the four goal first period advantage.

UC controlled play in the second period and increased its lead to 8-1 behind goals from McVeigh, Tyler Pietrowski (Curtice, OH/Odessa Jackalopes (NAHL)), Landrigan and freshman Brett Everson (Mississauga, Ontario/Hawkesbury (CCHL)).

The Pioneers put the game out of reach by way of five third period tallies. Devin Warfield (Cary, NC/Carolina Eagles (USPHL)) started the third period scoring to put the Pioneers on top 9-1 3:19 into the final 20 minute session. Landrigan went on to net two of the next three goals to complete his hat-trick, while Zach Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Gloucester (CCHL)) and Roman Ammirato (Williamstown, NJ/Union College (ECAC)) each found the back of the net once to complete the high scoring affair.

The Pioneers out shot the home team 65-15 om the afternoon. Sophomore goalie Gianluca Baggetta (Maple, Ontario/North York (OJHL)) stopped 14 shots as he improved to 2-0 on the season.

UC returns to the ice on Friday when it hosts Johnson & Wales in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
