|COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The second annual USA Hockey Advanced Officiating Symposium will be held July 24-26, 2020, in Providence, Rhode Island. The inaugural event held last year in Bloomington, Minnesota, was the first-of-its-kind symposium open to any official who has been registered at Level 3 or Level 4 for each of the previous three hockey seasons. |
The symposium offers officials the opportunity to obtain “tenured” status within the USA Hockey Officiating Program upon attending. The 2020 Advanced Officiating Symposium will feature presentations from high-level speakers including Brian Murphy, 29-year NHL linesman; Kevin Redding, 2006 Olympic linesman and Connecticut referee-in-chief; Ryan Daisy, NHL linesman and graduate of USA Hockey’s Junior Officiating Development Program; and Mark Rudolph, former USA Hockey director of officiating, among others.
General session presentations will cover a wide range of topics including the role of the tenured official, opportunities in officiating leadership, as well as health and wellness for the amateur official.
“We’re excited to build upon the success of last year’s inaugural Advanced Officiating Symposium,” said Matt Leaf, director of officiating education for USA Hockey. “The event provides a unique opportunity for officials nationwide to meet and learn through advanced-level instruction in order to pursue higher levels within USA Hockey’s Officiating Program.
“The tenured status achieved is an additional benefit for those aspiring officials.
”Tenured officials are a specific category for accomplished officials who demonstrate dedication to long-term development and making the game of hockey better in their local communities while in USA Hockey’s Officiating Program.
Officials applying for tenured stats are required to attend an Advanced Officiating Symposium.
“I have never attended a conference where the attendees have been so engaged and passionate throughout,” said Joy Johnston, Ice Hockey U.K. manager of officiating. Johnston was a speaker at the inaugural symposium and is expected to return again this year. “It was energizing to be in the room with them all.”
Early bird pricing is available up until January 1, 2020, and all interested participants must be registered by July 2, 2020. For more information or to register online click here.
