NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Despite having a 3-0 lead heading into the third period, the Yale Bulldogs proved to be resilient, outscoring Union 5-1 over the final 23:04 and coming back to win 5-4 in overtime.

Brandy Streeter kicked off Union’s early surge, six minutes into the game. Off a pass from Jordi Naidrich, Streeter netted the puck to give the Dutchwomen an early 1-0 advantage. Under a minute to go in the first period Rachel de Perio would score and give Union a 2-0 upper hand, despite being out shot 14 to nine in the first period.

Haley Shugart opened up the second period with her third goal of the season, and seemingly solidifying a potential Union victory, heading into the third period.

Though facing a heavy deficit with just 20 minutes to go, the Bulldogs continued to press on the Dutch. Yale’s Greta Skarzynski capitalized on a Yale power play opportunity and brought her team within two. de Perio answered back, on a power play of her own, scoring again and once again bringing the Dutchwomen three goals apart from Yale.

From there on, the flood gates would open as the Dutchwomen would allow three unanswered goals in from the Bulldogs. With the score settled at four a piece, the two ECAC opponents headed into overtime.

To Union’s dismay, the team would enter the overtime period playing man-down, from a tripping penalty. Ultimately, that would be enough of an opportunity for Yale to capitalize and steal the victory from the Dutchwomen.
