After helping the Canisius College hockey team to its first weekend sweep of the season, three different Griffs rookies collected weekly accolades on Tuesday, highlighted by Dylan McLaughlin (Lancaster, N.Y.) being named the NCAA Third Star of the Week as well as earning Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week honors.

In addition, classmate Jimmy Mazza (Kings Park, N.Y.) was named the Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, while Felix Chamberland (Quebec City, Quebec) collected the league’s Rookie of the Week award.

The second freshman this season to earn the league’s Player of the Week award, McLaughlin led the Griffs’ attack with six points in the weekend sweep of Bentley. He registered a pair of assists in Friday’s 3-1 victory before matching the program’s Division I record with four assists in Saturday’s 6-3 win.

McLaughlin leads all Canisius rookies with 23 points, six goals and 17 assists this season. The Lancaster, New York, native has recorded at least one point in nine of his last 10 games – including a current five-game run – and his 16 points since Jan. 8 are the second most by a rookie nationally during that span.

Mazza posted three points in the series against the Falcons with a goal and two assists – one more point than he had in his first 26 collegiate contests. He netted his first career goal in Friday’s 3-1 victory, scoring a power-play goal that proved to be the game-winning tally, before registering his first career multi-point game with two assists on Saturday. Mazza also added four blocked shots during the weekend.

In 28 games during his freshman campaign, Mazza has collected five points on a goal and four assists, while ranking second on the team with 34 blocked shots.

Chamberland also added three points on a pair of goals and one assist to collect Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week accolades for the first time. On Friday, he scored a goal just 33 seconds after Bentley took its only lead of the weekend before registering his first collegiate multi-point contest on Saturday with a goal and an assist.

In 28 games as a rookie, Chamberland has registered 12 points on five goals and seven assists.

Coming off its first weekend sweep of the season, the Griffs look to continue their winning ways this weekend with a pair of home games against Sacred Heart. The schools open the series at HARBORCENTER on Friday at 7:35 p.m
