Orange add depth to roster with two goalies, four skaters

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – It’s an exciting day for Syracuse ice hockey as head coach Paul Flanagan announced the signing of six recruits to the program. Kayla Munro, Sarah Thompson, Tatum White, Kambel Beacom, Amelia Van Vliet, and Hannah Johnson are set to begin their academic and athletic careers at Syracuse University starting in the fall of 2020.
 
“We are very excited about this year’s signing class,” Flanagan said. “With eight current seniors on our roster we will be looking for this group of freshmen to come in and immediately establish themselves. Our assistant coaches Brendon and Julie have done a great job of securing commitments from a talented group of individuals who possess the kind of character we relish in our program.”
 
Kambel Beacom | Defense | Elmira, Ontario (Cambridge Rivulettes) 
Kambel Beacom comes from Elmira, Ontario, where she spent her high school years playing for the Cambridge Rivulettes of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) as a standout defender. A member of Team Ontario Blue, Beacom has 20 goals and 32 assists in her career. In 2019 she competed in the National Women’s U18 Championship with Team Ontario Blue where recorded one assist.


Hannah Johnson | Defense| Readfield, Maine (Stanstead College) 
A defender from Readfield, Maine, Hannah Johnson comes to Syracuse from hockey powerhouse Stanstead College. Johnson attended USA Hockey’s 2018 16/17 Player Development Camp where she registered a goal and two assists through five games. She put up 51 points during the 2018-19 season (11 G, 40 A) and has recorded 11 goals and 16 assists through 28 games so far this year. With her help, Stanstead won the North American Prep Hockey Association (NAPHA) league in 2018 and 2019.


Kayla Munro | Goalie | North Vancouver, B.C. (Pacific Steelers)
Kayla Munro comes from North Vancouver, British Columbia, where she most recently played for the Pacific Steelers of the Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL). Munro helped her midget club, Fraser Valley Rush, win silver medals at provincials in 2018 and 2019, her efforts earning her BC FMAAA League All-Star Goalie honors both years. In 2019 Munro was selected to attend Hockey Canada’s U18 Selections Camp.


Sarah Thompson | Forward | Ottawa, Ontario (Nepean Junior Wildcats)
Sarah Thompson joins the Orange from Ottawa, Ontario, where she played for the Nepean Junior Wildcats of the PWHL. An alternate captain, Thompson finished an impressive 2018-19 campaign with 11 goals and 14 assists in 38 games, and thus far in the 2019 season has two goals and seven assists in her 12 contests. Thompson has competed with Team Ontario as well as Team Canada’s U18 team. She also attended Hockey Canada’s U18 Selection Camp.


Amelia Van Vliet | Goalie | Kemptville, Ontario (Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves)
Coming to ‘Cuse from Kemptville, Ontario, is Amelia Van Vliet. A goalie, Van Vliet plays for the Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves of the PWHL where her teams have twice reached the PWHL Final Four Championship (2017-18, 2018-19). Van Vliet earned a PWHL bronze medal while playing for the Nepean Jr. Wildcats during the 2017-18 season, and she’s also attended two Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) development camps.

Tatum White | Forward | Kingston, Ontario (Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves)
Tatum White joins Syracuse from Kingston, Ontario, where she stars for the Kingston Jr. Ice Wolves of the PWHL. White has registered 40 goals and 49 assists in just under three years with the Ice Wolves and is currently an alternate captain for the club. She won gold with Ontario Red in the 2019 U18 National Championships and competed with Team Canada’s U18 team during their Summer Series against the United States.
